At Barnstable, we value teachers who are skillful and patient, with varied backgrounds and experience in order to maximize teaching strategies. We believe that teachers are the single most important factor in a successful education, and so are extremely discerning when it comes to hiring.
With an average class size of 10 students, teachers can provide personal attention and address each student’s unique strengths and weaknesses. Our teachers utilize auditory, visual, and exploratory teaching methods to meet the needs of their students and help them stay engaged. We also use technology in the classroom to promote teacher/student collaborate and incorporate executive function skill-building into all of our classes.
Barnstable teachers must be able to balance structure with guidance, curriculum with creativity, and academic productivity with the ability to nurture. Our teachers genuinely enjoy working with students and can maintain a sense of humor and goodwill while providing leadership worthy of their students’ respect.
Regular faculty meetings and in-service training are an important part of our own ongoing education. Experts from a variety of fields are invited in to help sharpen teaching skills and heighten awareness of recent developments in education.
We are committed to being on the cutting edge of academic research and understanding. No matter what a teacher’s strengths may be, there is always room for growth.
