Academic Goals
College preparation is our primary focus. We want each graduating senior to be accepted to one or more colleges of his or her choice. To achieve this, we promote three critical areas of development:- Improving academic skills essential to college and long-term success
- Developing the capacity to think analytically, creatively, and independently
- Stimulating and rewarding the student's natural curiosity and interests
Achieving these goals allows students to adapt successfully to college life and the larger world. We even take college prep a step further with our Early College Program.
Self-Esteem and Academic Achievement
One of the hallmarks of a Barnstable education is the way in which academic achievement and personal growth are integrated. While many would agree that self-esteem is vitally important, children often do not have the necessary opportunities for achieving the worthwhile skills, insights, self-discipline, and relationships that build self-esteem over time.Self-esteem cannot simply be given to a child. Superficial compliments, smiles, and pats on the back cannot provide it either. Our students must be given regular opportunities and encouragement to strive towards worthwhile accomplishments. Through graduated levels of effort and achievement, the developing individual learns to think well of his or her own abilities and those of others.
"Barnstable Academy changed our lives! My daughter went from being afraid to go to school to not being able to wait to get there every day...She is now a senior and is thriving. Involved in all social activities including their wonderful performing arts program. Can't say enough good things!"
