New After School Program - Homework Help
Barnstable Academy teachers offer homework assistance after school. The "Homework Help" program is designed to help all students finish their homework assignments more efficiently after school and without the distractions of home, Wii, cellphones, or Ipods.

Barnstable Alumni Reunion
A fantastic time was had by all at the "30 Years of Barnstable" alumni reunion held on March 5 at the UltraBar/Lounge in Teaneck, NJ. This amazing event was organized by Barnstable alum, David Cohen, who poured a tremendous amount of time and energy into an evening in which alumni of all ages were able to celebrate and connect. Rick Lavoie Workshops
Barnstable families and friends shared an amazing educational day with Rick Lavoie on March 4. Rick Lavoie is widely hailed as a leading authority on children with learning differences. His two workshops, "The Motivation Breakthrough" and "Parenting in the 21st Century", provided invaluable insight and strategies for relating to and understanding our students and children.

Teaching More Than Just Computers
Rob Houghton, Director of Technology and a computer sciences teacher at Barnstable Academy, is teaching his students more than just operating systems and word processing skills. He has transformed the school's media center into a medical research outpost of Stanford University, tying it into the elite university's computer-based "Folding@home" protein project.

Toys for Eva's Village
Through the Community Service program lead by Steve Meininger, Barnstable Academy collected sweatshirts and toys for Eva's Village, the largest homeless shelter in New Jersey. This is the fifth year Barnstable has participated in making contributions in support of Eva's Village. For the holiday season, more than 200 toys were donated to the children this year.

Video Featured on NBA TV and News 12
Barnstable Academy Junior, David Rodman, combined his passion for basketball with his Independent Study in his Advanced Computers class. On a whim, Rodman submitted it to an NBA TV video contest called "How Do You Stack Up?" Rodman's video was selected and featured on NBA TV, and he was recognized on News 12.

Sarah Gleyzer ('09), World Champion
Sarah Gleyzer ('09) and her dance partner Nikita Malakhov placed 24th overall in The World Youth Latin Dance Competition in Shanghai, China, this past September. Gleyzer and Malakhov qualified for the World Championship after being named World Masters Youth Latin Champions.

Zach and Kylie Goldstein have starred in major motion pictures as well as Broadway productions, but credit their school, Barnstable Academy, with helping them balance their educations with their careers.

Finding the key to unlock a student’s maximum potential is a major focal point at Barnstable Academy, an alternative college prep-level middle school and high school in Oakland, New Jersey. One of the programs offered by Barnstable is a unique way to get hands-on experience with a specific career path or college area of study in early childhood education.

Mr. Sharma Nominated for Outstanding Teacher Award
Since 1959, Princeton University has honored outstanding New Jersey teachers for their contributions to the lives of high school students. Barnstable Academy Science Teacher, Mr. Vinai Sharma has been nominated because of his effective involvement with his students in the teaching and learning process, his dedicated service to Barnstable Academy, and to his own professional growth as a lifelong learner.

Zach Goldstein Performs in Woodstock Tribute
Barnstable Academy Sophomore guitarist, Zach "Page" Goldstein, will be performing on Sunday, March 29 from 6-10pm at Paul Green's "School of Rock" in South Hackensack. During this performance, Zach will be filmed for a documentary which will be aired on VH1 and The History Channel.
