
Celia Kahn
Director of Social Services
Celia Kahn earned her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. She is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of New Jersey and a Licensed Master Social Worker in the State of New York. Kahn is also affiliated with the NASW, NJSSW, and is certified by the American Safety and Health Institute as a CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer. She has been a practicing social worker for twenty-four years working with adolescents and adults in a variety of individual settings as well as in groups. In addition, Kahn has training in Mindfulness and Yoga for Children from the Institute for the Advancement of Human Behavior (IAHB).
Prior to joining the Barnstable Academy family, Kahn worked as a school social worker at Ridgefield Park High School as part of the child study team. She worked directly with students, parents, and teachers to enable the students to be successful in their school environment. Kahn provided individual school-based counseling, conducted middle school social skills classes, and participated in the development of IEP's.
Kahn also worked at the American Red Cross. She developed, implemented, and facilitated groups for infants, toddlers, and their siblings. Kahn started "Wife, Mother and Me" a group specifically for women helping them transition from wife to mother. This successful program was featured in The Bergen Record. In addition, Kahn is committed to volunteer work providing individual counseling at Volunteer Counseling Service of Rockland County and facilitating a wellness group at Gilda's Club of Northern New Jersey.
Prior to Columbia, Celia received a Bachelor of Science in Children's Theatre from Emerson College. She is an eight year member of the Barnstable family.
