Barnstable Academy Speaker Series – The Power of Non-Zero Thinking: Making Anxiety Work For You with Dr. Matt Zakreski

May 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us for an Evening with Matthew J. Zakreski, Psy.D., as he presents on the emotional needs of gifted and neurodivergent learners.

Anxiety is a part of life. And that’s OK! It can be very unpleasant, but it isn’t all bad; anxiety even has an evolutionary benefit. We spent a lot of energy trying to avoid anxiety or minimize it, but the true path forward is embracing anxiety to allow us to grow. Anxiety can change our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and while it attempts to do so for the worst, we can use it to empower ourselves by embracing the power of non-zero thinking. There’s always a chance that something bad could happen, but by embracing that fact, we open ourselves up to other possible outcomes that are less negative and possibly even positive.

Dr. Zakreski is a licensed clinical psychologist, consultant, speaker, published author, professor, and podcast host. He has presented his work on giftedness nearly one thousand times all over the world. He is a member of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), the Society for the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG), and the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children (NJAGC). He is the co-founder of The Neurodiversity Collective, where he provides therapy, psycho-educational testing, and consultation. Learn more: www.theneurodiversitycollective.com
